Biography
  • Advises U.S. and international clients on various international trade law matters, including U.S. export controls and economic sanctions.

Kayla is an associate in the international trade practice advising clients on enforcement and compliance issues related to U.S. export controls and economic sanctions. She has experience representing clients in enforcement and licensing matters with the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) and the U.S. Department of the Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). She represents clients in a variety of industries, including electronics, semiconductors, advanced computing, biotechnology, telecommunications and healthcare.

Kayla also has experience representing clients in trade remedies proceedings before the International Trade Administration (ITA) and the Court of International Trade (CIT) and representing clients undergoing foreign investment reviews with the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). She also advises on matters involving international trade compliance in the context of mergers and acquisitions. Kayla maintains an active pro bono practice.

Before joining Akin, Kayla was an associate with an international trade advisory practice at a global firm in Washington, D.C. She graduated Order of the Coif and magna cum laude from Duke University School of Law, earning a J.D. and LL.M. in International and Comparative Law. During law school, she served as the articles editor and staff editor of the Duke Journal of Comparative & International Law, member and vice president of special events of the Women Law Students Association and as a Fellow with the Lawyer Education and Development Program. She earned a B.A. in International Affairs magna cum laude, with a minor in Economics and concentration in Middle East Studies from The George Washington University.
