Matt is a counsel in the firm’s debt finance practice with a focus on lending and finance transactions. He also assists public and private companies in mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, in and out of court restructurings and general corporate matters.
Matt’s experience includes representing borrowers, financial institutions, agent banks, private equity firms and other institutional investors in connection with secured and unsecured syndicated lending transactions, including the representation of agent lenders and borrowers in connection with working capital facilities, direct lending, acquisition financings, bridge loans, asset-based loans, first lien/second lien financings and debtor-in-possession financings. He also has significant experience representing lenders and borrowers in upstream and midstream oil and gas transactions.
Prior to joining Akin in 2022, Matt was an attorney at another global law firm. He served as a judicial clerk for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas in 2014. He earned his J.D. with honors from The University of Texas School of Law, where he served as articles editor for the Texas Journal of Oil, Gas and Energy Law.
