Biography

Omid advises creditors, debtors, hedge funds, private equity sponsors and distressed investors in chapter 11 cases, out-of-court restructurings, distressed mergers & acquisitions (M&A), liability management transactions and insolvency-sensitive matters.

Prior to joining Akin, Omid was a restructuring associate at another international law firm based in New York City. Prior to that, Omid was a Law Clerk to the Honorable Mary F. Walrath in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

Omid earned his J.D. with honors from The George Washington University Law School. He earned his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Representative Work
  • Curo Group Holding Corp.: Counsel to the debtor, a leading consumer credit lender serving the U.S. and Canada, in its chapter 11 cases involving over $2.1 billion of debt.
  • Revlon: Counsel to Revlon and certain of its subsidiaries in their chapter 11 cases in the Southern District of New York that reduced $2.7 billion of funded debt.
  • Hertz: Counsel to Apollo Global Management on behalf of certain funds and accounts it manages in a $6.5-billion joint bid alongside Knighthead Capital Management and Certares Opportunities, as sponsor to Hertz Global Holdings Inc.’s chapter 11 plan of reorganization and to fund the company’s exit from bankruptcy.
  • Churchill Capital Corp II: Counsel to the special purpose acquisition company in its $1.5-billion acquisition of Software Luxembourg Holding S.A. (Skillsoft) and concurrent acquisition of Global Knowledge Training by Skillsoft.
  • GTT Communications: Counsel to an ad hoc group of term loan lenders to GTT Communications, operator of one of the largest Tier 1 internet networks in the world, in their chapter 11 cases involving $4.5 billion in liabilities.
  • Whiting Petroleum: Counsel to an ad hoc group of noteholders in the chapter 11 restructuring of Whiting Petroleum Corporation, one of the largest independent exploration and production companies in the U.S. with over $3.4 billion in funded debt obligations.
  • Extraction Oil & Gas: Counsel to an ad hoc group of unsecured noteholders in the prearranged chapter 11 restructuring of Extraction Oil & Gas, one of the largest oil and gas exploration and production companies in the Rocky Mountain region, with approximately $1.7 billion of funded debt obligations.
  • Talen: Counsel to an ad hoc group of crossholders of Talen Energy Supply LLC, one of the largest competitive power generation companies in North America in connection with the chapter 11 cases filed by the company and its affiliates in the Southern District of Texas.
  • McDermott: Counsel to an ad hoc group of unsecured noteholders of McDermott International, a fully integrated provider of technology, engineering and construction solutions to the energy industry.
  • Madison Square Boys & Girls Club: Counsel to the company, a not-for-profit organization, in connection with its chapter 11 case filed in the Southern District of New York to address claims arising under the New York Child Victims Act.
  • Pioneer: Counsel to Pioneer, a land-based drilling and production services provider operating in the U.S. and Colombia, in its prepackaged chapter 11 cases in the Southern District of Texas.
  • Foresight: Counsel to Foresight Energy, a leading producer of thermal coal based in the Illinois basin, in its prearranged chapter 11 case that reduced over $1 billion of its funded indebtedness.
