Rachel Polan advises sovereign and multinational clients on a broad range of international trade matters, including World Trade Organization (WTO) agreements and disputes, international trade law and trade policy.
Prior to joining Akin, Rachel trained and worked at a leading firm focusing on civil litigation, international arbitration and investigations.
Rachel holds an LL.M. summa cum laude from the Geneva Graduate Institute (Institut de hautes études internationales et du développement) and J.D. magna cum laude from Brooklyn Law School, where she served as the executive articles editor of the Brooklyn Law Review. During law school, Rachel was a judicial intern for the Honorable Pamela K. Chen of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York and an extern with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.

- Advised a government in negotiations for comprehensive trade and economic agreements.
- Advised on several U.S. governmental and internal investigations, including leading financial institutions and international manufacturers.
- Counseled an international bank in litigation arising from the Madoff Ponzi scheme.
- Represented amici in the U.S. Supreme Court defending New York State’s licensing regime governing concealed firearms against a Second Amendment challenge.
