Roxanne is an experienced business litigator who helps clients solve problems and achieve their goals efficiently. Active in both state and federal court, she has advised on director and officer litigation, bankruptcy matters in the energy and other industries, handled internal and government investigations in the U.S. and Europe, and represented investors and financial services firms in a wide array of civil litigation matters.
Roxanne distinguishes herself in her ability to win cases based on solid legal strategy. Her practice includes extensive representation of both public and privately held companies in investor, creditor and executive disputes as well as in shareholder litigation. She has successfully defended clients in cases involving securities fraud and government investigations of hedge funds.
Roxanne has also represented creditors, institutional investors, and debtors in litigation arising from Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases and financial restructurings. She spent six years working in the firm’s New York office.
Roxanne is committed to using her skill set to give back to the community. This dedication led her to become the first Akin Fellow for Her Justice, where she first-chaired a dozen family-law cases for low-income women and victims of domestic violence. In addition, Roxanne serves on both the Pro Bono Committee and the Diversity & Inclusion Counsel at the Firm. Moreover, Roxanne is a Vice-Chair of the Firm’s Latinx Resource Group.
- Served as second chair in a successful trial, examining multiple witnesses and playing a lead role in trial strategy, in representation of a non-debtor subsidiary in litigation against pension plans that were seeking to recover over $58 million from the non-debtor affiliate, after emergence from Chapter 11 of the debtor entities. The trial team achieved a full victory and wiped clean $58 million liability.
- Led team in obtaining a preliminary injunction on behalf of pro bono clients—two black male high school students who were discriminated against for wearing their hair in their natural state in locs. On this matter, Akin partners with NAACP LDF.
- Served as second chair and was top-level senior associate in the firm’s representation of an investment funds portfolio company defending against a substantial financial claim brought by a former CEO. Upon closing of evidence at trial, the plaintiff agreed to settle the case in very favorable terms for the client.
- Represented various creditors’ committees and independent boards of directors in investigation and litigation involving bankruptcy causes of action in pre- and post-petition bankruptcy litigation settings in Texas, New York, and Delaware federal bankruptcy courts in the energy, telecommunications, media, shipping, and retail industries.
- Achieved successful dismissal and settlement of breach of fiduciary duty and gross negligence claims against officers and directors of company.
