Shruti focuses on investment management matters. She guides clients in the formation and ongoing operation of private investment funds, including private equity funds, credit funds and hedge funds. In addition, she maintains a broad pro bono practice as a dedicated advisor to clients seeking asylum, domestic violence survivors and nonprofit organizations.
Prior to joining the investment management practice, Shruti was an associate in Akin’s litigation practice, where she assisted in a major loan workout matter and a tort committee restructuring. She also served as an Akin summer associate and worked with energy clients.
Shruti served as a legal extern at the Queens County District Attorney’s Office, focusing on domestic violence and animal cruelty prosecutions. She also served as a legal extern for Judge Valerie Caproni at the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. She completed internships with a U.S. congressman and at the Environmental Protection Bureau of the Office of the New York State Attorney General. Additionally, she worked as a paralegal at a law firm in the Northeast that specializes in insurance and claims.
Shruti completed her bachelor’s degree in political science from Rutgers University and her J.D. from Columbia Law School. During law school, Shruti was co-president of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund and on the staff of the Columbia Journal of Environmental Law.
