Biography
  • Advises public and private companies, private equity firms and other financial sponsors in connection with M&A and other strategic transactions.

Sian focuses on mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and other complex transactions, including leveraged buyouts, private equity investments, co-investments, joint ventures and divestitures. She represents private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies in transactions, including follow-on acquisitions, dispositions and corporate governance matters.

Sian represents clients across a broad range of sectors, including retail & consumer products, infrastructure and energy, health care, asset management and financial services.

Prior to joining Akin, Sian was an M&A associate at a leading global law firm.

  • Represented RedBird Capital and Compass Datacenters on the sale of Compass, a provider of data center solutions to the world’s largest hyperscalers and cloud providers, to Brookfield Infrastructure Partners and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan.*
  • Represented Centers Plan for Healthy Living on the sale of Centers, a leading managed care plan based in New York, to Elevance Health Inc.*
  • Represented HPS Investment Partners, a leading global credit investment firm, in connection with its strategic transaction with The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, under which Guardian shifted the investment management of approximately $30 billion of assets to HPS, and Guardian increased its minority equity interest in HPS.*
  • Represented Wafra Inc., an alternative investment manager, on its strategic capital investment in GREYKITE Investment Advisor Limited, a newly launched private capital investment advisory firm.*
  • Represented Yellow Wood Partners, a private equity firm focused on investing in consumer brands and companies, on its acquisition from Unilever of its beauty and personal care brand Suave in North America.*
  • Represented Yellow Wood Partners on the acquisition by its portfolio company, Suave Brands Company, of the ChapStick brand from Haleon.*
  • Represented Wafra Inc. on its strategic investment in MML Capital, a provider of growth capital to growing and established companies in Europe and North America.*
  • Represented Almanac Realty Investors, the private real estate investment arm of investment manager Neuberger Berman, on its acquisition of a minority stake in Dermody Properties, a private equity investment management company focused on the logistics real estate sector.*
  • Represented AEA Investors, a leading global private investment firm, on its acquisition of Chemtron Riverbend, a full-service provider of wastewater treatment services. The acquisition was completed alongside investment by Chemtron management and employees.*
  • Represented Wafra Inc. on its seed investment in Niobrara Capital, a private equity firm focused on investing in the technology services sector.*
  • Represented Almanac Realty Investors in connection with the investment by its strategic partnership with NPS in Scape Australia, Australia’s largest owner-operator of student housing.*
  • Represented Wesfarmers Limited, an Australian conglomerate, on its takeover of Australian Pharmaceutical Industries Limited, Australia’s largest wholesale distributor of pharmaceutical products.*
  • Represented APG Asset Management Group, a Dutch pension fund, on its acquisition of a strategic interest in Ausgrid, Australia’s largest power distributor, from AustralianSuper.*
  • Represented Utilities Trust of Australia, a core-infrastructure fund for institutional investors, on it and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board’s acquisition of strategic interests in Sydney Desalination Plant, one of the largest desalination plants in world, from The Infrastructure Fund.*
  • Represented The Kinetic Group, Australia and New Zealand’s largest bus network provider, on several strategic acquisitions of Australian and New Zealand transport providers.
  • Represented The Riverside Company, a global investment firm, on its acquisition of the Independent Living Specialists, Australia’s largest medical and homecare equipment supplier and five subsequent bolt-on transactions.*
  • Represented Adairs Limited, one of Australia’s largest retailers of home products, on its strategic acquisition of the Mark Tuckey brand.*
  • Represented Transit Australia Group on the sale of its business, the largest privately owned Australian bus company, to The Kinetic Group.*
