Biography
  • Advises on the tax considerations of significant business transactions.
  • Deep background working in international tax at Big Four accounting firms.

Sydney provides strategic counsel on all aspects of local, state, federal and international tax to businesses engaging in mergers & acquisitions (M&A), partnerships, reorganizations and joint ventures (JVs), as well as those structuring debt and equity financing. She represents corporations, major financial institutions, investment managers and other organizations across a variety of asset classes, including private equity, credit, energy and real estate.

Prior to joining Akin, Sydney worked as a tax associate at two other international law firms. She was previously a senior associate in international tax at KPMG and then PwC, where she advised multinational clients on cross-border transactions. During law school, she served as a legal intern for a variety of business, including a fashion company and a fitness studio.

Sydney earned her B.A. cum laude in English, with a concentration in women’s and gender studies, from the College of the Holy Cross, where she also studied abroad at the National University of Ireland, Galway. She completed her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, where she was an editor of the Journal of Corporate, Financial and Commercial Law and part of the Tax Law Association. She received her LL.M. in taxation from the Georgetown University Law Center.
