Akin Gump Deal Wins Restructuring Deal of the Year at IFLR Europe Awards
(London) – Akin Gump is pleased to announce that the €6 billion Agrokor restructuring, on which it served as independent international legal counsel in connection with the negotiation, agreement and implementation of the settlement plan in relation to Agrokor d.d. and its subsidiaries, has won Restructuring Deal of the Year in the IFLR Europe Awards 2020.
As noted by IFLR in its profile of the deal, Agrokor’s restructuring was “completely unprecedented,” requiring passage by Croatia’s government of an emergency law, the first of its kind (now known as the “Lex Agrokor”). Other novel aspects include the law enabled the payment of pre-petition claims to critical suppliers, and the new money terms involved a rollup of new money providers’ existing claim.
