Akin Gump Honored with Award for Workplace Mental Health
(Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump is pleased to share that the firm is one of three organizations to receive the inaugural Carolyn C. Mattingly Award for Mental Health in the Workplace from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and The Luv u Project.
Honorees were recognized for being “exemplary organizations that advance the mental health and wellbeing of their workers, thus serving as role models for other employers.”
Akin Gump was honored for its Be Well program, which includes onsite mental health advisors, an enhanced Employee Assistance Program available to all employees and family members, and a variety of education and training resources focused on mental health and well-being. As the award organizers note, the program has realized a 144 percent increase in total engagement since 2019.
Meg Meserole, Akin Gump chief human resources officer, said of the recognition, “We are extremely proud to be among the handful of organizations honored in this award’s inaugural year. Be Well is our signature holistic wellness program, one that has been the centerpiece of our efforts to help our employees realize their physical, mental, financial and social/community well-being goals. The program is now in its seventh year, and, by listening, researching, and learning, we have continued to improve it and help it even better meet our employees where they are.”
The excellence of the Be Well program has been recognized on multiple occasions. Most recently, it featured prominently in Akin Gump taking first place in New York in the “0 to 1,499 Employees” category and second in Texas in the “500 to 1,499 Employees” category as part of the Healthiest Employers contests (learn more here).
