Akin Gump Honored with Sager Award for Diversity

(New York) – Akin Gump is proud to announce that the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA), at its Diversity Gala on October 4, recognized the firm’s achievements in diversity with the 2017 Thomas L. Sager Award. Akin Gump chairperson Kim Koopersmith accepted the award on behalf of the firm.
The award is presented each year to a large law firm that demonstrates “sustained commitment to improving the hiring, retention and promotion of diverse attorneys.”
Akin Gump was one of three finalists in 2015 and 2016 as well and has been named a winner of four regional Sager Awards, going back to its debut presentation in 1999.
The Thomas L. Sager Award is named for DuPont senior vice president and general counsel Thomas Sager, who is recognized as a pioneer in developing a model for improving the hiring, retention, promotion and involvement of minorities and women.
In 2011, Vernon Jordan was honored as MCCA’s first Lifetime Achievement Award recipient (learn more here).
