The Washington Post has featured Akin Gump’s new Cuba initiative in a story that also notes the addition of Anya Landau French to the firm’s public law and policy practice. Landau French is a senior advisor at the firm focusing on Cuban matters.
As the article reports, the new initiative will build off of Akin Gump’s experience advising clients looking to enter the Cuban market on legal and lobbying strategy. Scott Parven, a public law and policy partner at the firm who will lead the Cuba policy initiative, said clients see the opening of diplomatic relations between Washington and Havana “as a tremendous business opportunity. They’re seeing the long game. Companies want to make sure they’re doing everything right to enter the market the right way and establishing the right reputation.”
Landau French was previously a fellow at the Center for Democracy in the Americas and the editor of The Havana Note, a blog documenting developments in U.S.-Cuba relations. She is also a former aide to ex-Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and an advisor on international trade issues to the Senate Finance Committee.
