(San Francisco) – Natasha Kohne, a partner in the litigation practice at Akin Gump, has been selected by Daily Journal as one of its Top Women Lawyers in California. Kohne, who co-heads Akin Gump’s cybersecurity, privacy and data protection practice, was noted for working on complex cases that cross international borders and require grappling with novel legal concepts.
As an example of her work, Daily Journal cites a case in which Kohne served as lead counsel before the International Court of Dispute Resolution on behalf of six clients against the regulatory body that is responsible for Internet domain names. The case pertained to an application for the use of a sensitive generic top level domain name and, in a precedent-setting decision, Kohne convinced the arbitrators over the course of two years to prohibit the application from proceeding. She described the matter as one in which she and others on the team “had to really forge [their] own path.”
As for her cybersecurity and privacy practice, Kohne noted “the very cutting-edge issues” she frequently handles as part of her often-highly sensitive work in that space.
In addition to her day to day practice, Daily Journal notes that Kohne serves on Akin Gump’s management committee, launched the firm’s Abu Dhabi office and helped launch its office in Dubai.
While her practice is wide-ranging, Kohne summed it up by observing, “Oftentimes, I’m really a problem solver. It’s my job to...find little answers in different corners and put them all together and come up with a solution for the client.”
Founded in 1945, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
