(Washington, D.C.) – The National Law Journal has named Akin Gump litigation partner Mark MacDougall as among its Litigation Trailblazers, which recognizes those “who have helped make a difference in the fight for justice.”

In its profile of Mr. MacDougall, NLJ spotlighted his work in the area of reputational recovery, focusing on his recent representation of Chobani LLC in the yogurt-maker’s headline-making reputational protection suit against talk show host Alex Jones and his website InfoWars. Mr. MacDougall obtained a full retraction and public apology for his client—a critical win that preserved Chobani’s reputation and one that The Wall Street Journal called “a rare victory for the First Amendment and legal recourse against slander.”

Speaking on the potential dangers of “fake news,” Mr. MacDougall said, “Those who manufacture false stories, disguised as real news, place our most important institutions at risk. The law has to find a way to respond—while remaining within the clear bounds of the First Amendment.”
