The Hollywood Reporter Names Spicer and Griffith to Power Lawyers List
(Los Angeles) - Akin Gump entertainment practice head Christopher Spicer and fellow partner Marissa Román Griffith have been named to The Hollywood Reporter’s 14th annual Power Lawyers list, a ranking of Hollywood’s top 100 attorneys.
Spicer is noted for his work as the lead lawyer for Comerica Bank, closing a $100 million revolving credit facility to Bron Studios to co-finance a slate of Warner Bros. films including the “massive hit” Joker. Despite a slowdown in Hollywood-China transactions, he also worked several deals on behalf of East West Bank, including Perfect Universe's film-slate financing deal with Universal and Bona Film Group’s investment in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
THR highlights Griffith’s work as lead dealmaker for MRC, having spearheaded the co-production and co-financing pacts for such films as Knives Out, Dora and the Lost City of Gold and The Lovebirds. She also put together the financing agreements for television shows like The Great, The Outsider and Ozark. In addition, Griffith is noted for representing Portfolio Funding Company in its acquisition of nearly 200 titles from the library of The Weinstein Co.
Speaking of Hollywood’s top priorities for 2020, Spicer said it was resolving the Writers Guild of America-talent agency situation. Griffith suggested it was, “investing in original content.”
Late last year, Spicer and Griffith were among a group of four at Akin Gump who were named to Variety’s Dealmakers Impact Report, a list of the people behind “the biggest pacts in the world of showbiz,” (Click here to learn more.)
