(Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump has been selected by Washington Business Journal as a recipient of one of this year’s Corporate Philanthropy Awards, given to those organizations that have made a difference in their communities through both financial and volunteer philanthropic work. The firm was chosen for its partnership with Tyler Elementary School.
Akin Gump’s relationship with Tyler Elementary goes back more than two decades with the establishment of the nonprofit Akin Gump School Partnership Project. The partnership, which includes a tutoring program that matches attorneys and staff members with students in need of academic assistance, has also been collaborating with parents and community volunteers to construct an outdoor classroom.
Akin Gump was honored previously for its work with Tyler Elementary. In 2016, the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs presented the firm with its Outstanding Achievement Award in the area of public education. (Click here to read more.)
