Yale Law Women Names Akin Gump Among Top Family-Friendly Firms
(New York) – Akin Gump is pleased to announce it has been named by Yale Law Women (YLW) as one of the 2019 Top Ten Firms for Family Friendliness.
In compiling the report, YLW collected information from the largest U.S. law firms on family accommodations, including billable hours and compensation data, the availability and use of parental and family leave accommodations, and the availability and use of part-time and flexible work schedules. Top-rated firms were those that received the highest overall scores in YLW’s analysis of the survey results.
Akin Gump has long been a leader in family-friendly policies. The firm’s reduced work schedule permits lawyers to work significantly reduced schedules and remain on partnership track—a reflection of the firm’s commitment to providing a workplace that enables lawyers to fulfill parenting and family care responsibilities while continuing to work as productive and valued Akin Gump lawyers.
In 2018, the firm expanded its parental leave policy for U.S. lawyers so that all parents receive the same amount of paid parental leave, removing designations of primary and secondary caregivers. Among other policies and benefits, the firm also offers an Infant Transition Program, which provides up to eight weeks of transition care at a daycare center close to the office, as well as an emergency backup childcare and elder care benefit to employees in all U.S. and London offices.
Now in its 14th year, the YLW report is produced to monitor trends in family friendliness among the largest law firms in the U.S. It also helps to raise awareness of disparities within the legal profession, highlight progress being made in the industry and identify areas for improvement.
