Trump Executive Order Tracker

Declares coal essential to U.S. economic and national security, designates it as a critical mineral for energy purposes, and directs agencies to remove regulatory barriers, prioritize coal leasing on federal lands, and promote coal use and exports. It also calls for evaluating coal’s eligibility as a critical material for steel production, supports coal-powered AI data centers, and accelerates development of coal technologies.

Directs emergency action under section 202(c) of the Federal Power Act by streamlining and expediting the approval of orders allowing electric generation resources to operate at maximum capacity during times of anticipated grid failure. It also mandates the development of a national methodology to assess grid reserve margins and identify critical generation resources that must be retained or prevented from retiring or converting fuel sources if doing so would reduce grid reliability.

Aims to bolster domestic mineral production by expediting permits, prioritizing mineral-rich federal lands, and reducing regulatory barriers to strengthen national security and economic stability. It also facilitates public and private investment in the mineral sector, leveraging federal resources, including the Defense Production Act (DPA), to ensure a stable and independent supply chain for critical minerals.

The executive order directs the Secretary of Commerce to conduct an investigation pursuant to Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 regarding “the effects on the national security of imports of timber, lumber, and their derivative products,” such as “paper products, furniture, and cabinetry.”  In undertaking this investigation, the President ordered the Secretary of Commerce to consider the following factors: 

This order revises federal policies to increase domestic timber production.  All relevant agencies shall eliminate, to the maximum extent permissible by law, all undue delays within their respective permitting processes related to timber production. Within 30 days of this executive order, the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Agriculture shall issue new or update guidance regarding tools necessary to increase timber production, reduce timber delivery time, and decrease timber supply uncertainty. Within 60 days of this executive order, the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Commerce must establish a strategy to improve the speed of approving forestry projects. Within 90 days of this executive order, the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Agriculture are directed to submit a plan to the President that establishes a target for the annual amount of timber to be offered for sale from Federal lands each year, over the next four years. Within 120 days of this executive order, the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Agriculture should complete the Whitebark Pine Rangewide Programmatic Consultation. Within 180 days of this executive order, the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Agriculture should adopt categorical exclusions to comply with the National Environmental Policy Act and reduce unnecessarily lengthy processes and costs related to approvals for timber production, forest management, and wildfire risk reduction treatments. Within 280 days of this executive order, the Secretary of the Interior shall establish new categorical exclusions for timber thinning and re-establish categorical exclusions for timber salvage activities.

Directs the heads of executive departments and agencies to review all funding provided to NGOs and align future funding decisions with the interests of the United States and the goals of the Trump-Vance administration. 

Orders that for each new regulation issued, at least 10 prior regulations be identified for elimination.  This practice is to ensure that the cost of planned regulations is responsibly managed and controlled through a rigorous regulatory budgeting process.

The Order requires all executive departments and agencies to deliver emergency price relief, consistent with applicable law, to the American people and increase the prosperity of the American worker. This will include actions related to: lowering the cost of housing and expanding housing supply; eliminating unnecessary administrative expenses and rent-seeking practices that increase health care costs; and creating employment opportunities.
