- Advises clients on a wide variety of regulatory, policy and transactional matters, with a focus on fraud and abuse.
Emily Gerry is an associate in the health care and life sciences practice, where she advises clients on a range of regulatory, enforcement and policy matters. Emily has a particular focus on matters involving fraud and abuse laws, including the federal False Claims Act, Stark Law, and Anti-Kickback Statute. Emily also counsels clients on matters related to food and drug law, Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement, privacy and data security, and health policy.
Prior to joining the firm, Emily was a research assistant at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where she focused on gynecological cancer research. In addition to scientific research, she developed protocols interpreting institutional and federal regulations on data privacy and human subjects research.
During law school, Emily was a Kent Scholar and served as the editor-in-chief of the Columbia Science and Technology Law Review. She also interned with the Vaccine Litigation Unit in the U.S. Department of Justice, where she wrote reports conceding, contesting or settling claims made through the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program.
Emily was a member of Akin's 2019 summer associate class.
