Golda Lai focuses on patent litigation and has vast experience representing clients in U.S. district courts across the country, in United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) proceedings such as inter partes review and reexaminations, and before the Federal Circuit.
Golda has a deep understanding of various scientific disciplines and techniques from a decade of involvement in scientific research. Prior to joining Akin, Golda was an associate for a New York law firm, where she primarily represented biotechnology clients in patent litigation, including several cases involving the Biosimilars Price Competition and Innovation Act (BPCIA). In addition, she has managed patent-related diligence matters in pharmaceutical mergers and acquisitions.
Golda earned her J.D. from University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she served as an editor of the Journal of Law and Social Change.
- Representing Johnson & Johnson entities, Sloan-Kettering, and the University of California in Hatch-Waxman litigation involving J&J’s blockbuster prostate cancer drug, Erleada®.
- Representing a large pharmaceutical company in pre-litigation preparation for biosimilar competition of its antibody used to treat certain cancers.
- Represented Amgen, Inc. in the first cases brought under the BPCIA which involved Amgen’s biologic products, Neupogen® and Neulasta®, that treat side effects of certain cancer treatments. These cases involved several precedent-setting challenges and led to the first U.S. Supreme Court decision on the statutory interpretation of the BPCIA.*
