- Advises United States and international clients on various international trade law matters, including U.S. economic sanctions and export controls.
John is an associate in the firm’s international trade practice advising clients in various international trade, enforcement and compliance issues related to Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS), U.S. export control and economic sanctions matters.
John represents clients in the merger, acquisition, and divestiture process before CFIUS and on accounting for associated risks. He also advises on developing and administering international trade compliance programs and conducting internal investigations.
He received J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center magna cum laude and Order of the Coif and a B.A. summa cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he majored in economics and political science. During law school, he served as an executive and staff editor Georgetown Journal of International Law. He also served as a clinic attorney for the Georgetown Federal Legislation Clinic.
John was a member of Akin’s 2022 summer associate class.
- Advising clients in the technology, aerospace, defense and pharmaceutical sectors regarding the CFIUS review process.
- Drafting and submitting various license applications for clients, including Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) licenses and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) agreements.
