Biography
  • Practice focuses on global merger control and foreign investment proceedings of complex cross-border projects for the world’s largest investors, as well as abuse of dominance, cartel investigations and general antitrust compliance.
  • Advises on all areas of international antitrust law, with particular experience in the EU, Germany and the Middle East.
  • Substantial experience in a wide range of industries, including energy, private equity, chemical and technology sectors, among others.

Milo Cywinski focuses on complex international cross-border transactions, and on EU and German antitrust matters of both a transactional and behavioural nature. He has substantial experience advising on a broad range of matters including precedent-setting cases before the European Commission, as well as merger control, foreign investment and behavioural cases in Germany, the Middle East and Asia. He regularly advises the world’s largest investors on global multi-jurisdictional assessments and filings, including pre- and post-transactional antitrust aspects. Milo has a doctorate and LLM in international antitrust law and is driven by a commercial approach with practical solutions based on a thorough understanding of his clients’ business goals.

Representative Work
  • Saudi Arabian public petroleum and natural gas company and its affiliates on a significant number of planned or realized transactions, including joint ventures with international partners, on global antitrust advice and more than 200 merger control and regulatory workstreams in sectors including energy, petrochemical infrastructure, transport, blockchain technology, retail, procurement and supply chain services.
  • Aramco on its purchaser approval proceeding before the European Commission, as well as global merger control and foreign investment filings, related to its acquisitions in Poland’s refining, wholesale, and jet fuel segments from PKN Orlen following its merger with Grupa Lotos.

  • Saudi Arabian industrial investments company on global merger control regarding the acquisition of 49% in one of the leaders in oilfield production.
  • Advent International on a number of transactions in the chemical sector, including the acquisition of the engineering plastics business DEM together with LANXESS, as well as Advent’s acquisition through Allnex of the global resins manufacturer Nuplex.
  • General Electric, EDF, Equinor, Macquarie, Sumitomo, Orsted and other investors on global merger control and general antitrust advice in relation to numerous renewable energy projects in the EEA, Asia and Latin America.
  • Santander Bank in relation to its acquisition of the German automotive financing segment of MCE Bank GmbH from Mitsubishi.
  • Korea’s largest airline company on merger control aspects related to its acquisition of a 64% stake in a smaller competitor.
  • German shipyard in antitrust matters related to German and international military vessel manufacturing projects.
  • OLX on the sale of its online real estate classifieds business in Indonesia to EMPG.
  • Outsourcing on the acquisition of 56% in OTTO Holding, one of the leaders in international employment services in Europe.
  • A major global t.echnology conglomerate in abuse of dominance proceedings in the EU and in Asia related to its mobile software activities.
