Rachel's practice focuses on complex chapter 11 cases, bankruptcy litigation and out-of-court restructurings.
She has experience representing debtors, lenders, ad hoc groups, bidders, and statutory committees before bankruptcy courts throughout the country.
Rachel has been recognized in every edition of The Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch, and she was selected as a semi-finalist for the International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation’s Rising Star Award in 2019.
Prior to joining Akin, Rachel was an associate at a leading international law firm where she represented retail and energy companies in all aspects of their chapter 11 bankruptcy cases. In law school, she served as a judicial extern to The Hon. Richard J. Leon in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
- GenesisCare: Counsel to an ad hoc group of secured creditors and DIP lenders in the chapter 11 cases of GenesisCare, a global health care provider specializing in cancer treatment, involving $1.7 billion in liabilities.
- Rudolph W. Giuliani: Counsel to the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors, on a pro bono basis, in the chapter 11 cases of Rudolph W. Giuliani, American politician and former mayor of New York City, involving over $152 million in liabilities.
- Pipeline Health: Counsel to the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in the chapter 11 cases of Pipeline Health and its affiliates, an independent health care network with hospitals in California, Texas and Illinois, involving more than $603 million in liabilities.
- Loyalty Ventures: Counsel to Loyalty Ventures and its affiliates, an operator of customer loyalty programs, in their chapter 11 cases involving over $656 million in liabilities.
- Just Energy: Counsel to the prepetition lenders and debtors in possession (DIP) lenders in the chapter 15 cases of Just Energy and its affiliates, a leading North American distributor of electricity and natural gas, involving more than $440 million in liabilities.
