Jan has extensive experience working with international organizations and advising on regional and multilateral diplomacy/negotiations. He also has experience in business and nongovernmental organization (NGO) sectors.
Before joining the firm, Jan served as Senior Intellectual Property (IP) Advisor at the U.K. Mission to the United Nations (UN) and World Trade organization (WTO) in Geneva. Jan served as the IP lead of the UK government in Geneva as well as the multilateral expert in the UK IP Office’s global IP attaché network. He was responsible for delivering the U.K.’s objectives in the Geneva institutions, particularly the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the WTO. Jan worked closely with other government departments with an interest in IP and innovation, including the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), Department for International Trade (DIT) and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
Jan served as a coordinator of two regional groups negotiating on their behalf at WIPO and served as the U.K.’s lead negotiator in the WTO Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property (TRIPS) Council.
Jan worked for the Czech government throughout the first Czech EU Council Presidency and later worked in Brussels influencing EU trade policy. He has an understanding of EU institutions.
Jan also taught multiparty negotiations in the Czech Republic and Germany. Early in his professional career, Jan worked in junior roles in consultancy and private sector.
