Alexander Armytage is an associate in the litigation and international arbitration group. Alex has experience advising on oil & gas arbitrations, banking litigation, crypto disputes, judicial reviews and data protection matters, as well as previous experience working on funds, financial restructuring and corporate transactions.

Alex has authored articles on national and international artificial intelligence, crypto assets and digital services regulation, and directors’ duties upon insolvency.

Representative Work
  • Advising Nexperia BV on a judicial review and Human Rights Act claim seeking damages from the UK government. The claim challenges an order from the Secretary of State to divest Nexperia's majority shareholding in Nexperia Newport Limited, a semiconductor plant, over perceived national security concerns. Despite the sale of the Newport facility for $177 million, the judicial review and damages claim are ongoing. This case is notable as the first judicial review of a decision made by a UK government minister under the NSIA 2021. Akin is also representing another major client in the only other such challenge to be brought against the government.
  • Advising on contractual and tortious disputes between high net worth individuals and a cryptocurrency exchange.
  • Advising on groundbreaking judicial reviews with accompanying human rights claims and national security issues.
  • Advising on data privacy and cybersecurity in the context of high-value investments.
